there are so many creative indonesians! let's do something

I am constantly amazed at how many creative people are out there in the Twitter-verse, especially here in Indonesia -- or what I call the Tw-Indo-verse. My latest discovery is digitalgrafis studio (picture above), who contacted me after I did a call-out for web designers to help us redesign HAKItree.

This got me thinking. As part of HAKItree's redesign, Rouse Indonesia would like to put together a directory of creative people here in Indonesia, which we will host on HAKItree

If you would like to participate, send me an email to this address with the subject line "CREATIF" and I will add you to our little project. Dodit and I will put together a template questionnaire and send it to everyone who wants to participate.

What qualifies as 'creative'? That's a good question. It is a very vague concept. If you are not sure, but would like to participate, send us an email anyway and we can think about having a second directory.

Please spread the word.

re-tweeting the obvious

Has anyone else been added to the RT (re-tweet) beta trial? The screenshot above explains how it works. It all sounds pretty good, but I'm not sure how useful it is going to be. Very few of people I follow re-tweet without adding something -- even if it's only setujuh! or ROFLMAO. My guess is that the new RT function won't work here.

To top it off, a quick scan of my timeline reveals that RTs make up only a very small number of the tweets that appear in my time-line. In the last 31 minutes there are only two -- and only one which is a "true" re-tweet (i.e. without an extra comment). Come to think of it, the only "true" re-tweets I can remember seeing are re-tweets of my own blog links (thanks guys!).

What do you think? Useful, interesting, nggak?

which is it, mr attorney-general?

The AGO has returned the dossier of Chandra's case twice due to incomplete proof.

Last week the Attorney-General swore black-and-blue that there was irrefutable evidence that Bibit and Chandra were guilty (of something). Yet, his prosecutors have returned the case file for Bibit to Police because of incomplete evidence.

Now you would think that with so much riding on this case the Police would get this right. Right? You would think.

Face-palm.

bali airport operator continues to talk nonsense

We need to clarify this to avoid further misinterpretations.

Have a read of this article. Can you tell what director of Pt Angkasa Pura is talking about? Basically, Bali airport has this bullshit way of charging passengers airport tax -- even if they are only transiting through the airport.

They do this by differentiating between a "transit flight" and a "transfer flight". I can't tell what the difference is. My guess is that a transit flight is one where you stop over but don't change planes. On a transfer flight you change planes.

That's all very well, but there is no difference from the passenger's perspective. And it shouldn't make any difference from the point of view of the airport either. There is no reason to charge passengers airport tax. It's outrageous.

mui says more stupid things

Muslims should not believe the ancient Mayan prediction and the description about doomsday in the movie

A chapter of the MUI are telling Muslims that they shouldn't see the big movie dominating theatres at the moment, 2012.

Why? Because it is misleading. Really? Solar flares heating up the molten core of the planet, like a big microwave is misleading?

From what he's telling the press, it is fairly obvious that Mahmud Zubaldi, the East Java chapter head, doesn't know what the film is about. For a start, the Mayans did not predict the world would end in 2012. They just didn't create a calendar that went past 2012.

Kind of like the Year 2000 computer bug?

the city disappears

The heavens just unleashed one hell of a torrent. It looks like the wet season is upon us. It's fun watching the motorcyclists who don't realise that engines don't work underwater.

getting smart with twitter lists (or at least trying)

I have decided to have a go at Twitter Lists, using the suggestions I blogged about yesterday. So far I have come up with these:

  1. Entrepreneurs -- the movers and shakers in the Web 2.0 universe
  2. Rouse people -- as the name suggests, people who work for Rouse and Suryomurcito & Co
  3. HAKItree people -- the hard working people at HAKItree
  4. Intriguing people -- the people that I find interesting, for one reason or another (usually it's because they talk to me)
  5. Cool brands -- this includes products that I use and like (apart from the big brands like Apple, Microsoft, etc)
  6. Helpful people -- people that are generous with their tweets
It will take me a day or so to populate all these lists. At the moment, most of them are empty, but if you are interested, please keep checking back.

Please don't be offended if I haven't included you on any of my lists. I am using my recent timeline to add people to lists, so those people who have tweeted recently are more likely to end up on a list.

Also, I would call myself an 'active follower', which means I follow people because I think they are intriguing, helpful or cool. The lists are my attempt at getting a bit more focused, and to help other people who might be looking for like-minded Tweeters.

is the jakarta globe trying to make us nicer people?

'My Jakarta' is my favourite part of The Jakarta Globe. Apparently, I'm not the only one who loves it. It is regularly in the top 10 read articles on the Globe's website -- almost daily, I think.

Reading this column has changed how I look at the world, particularly other people. Knowledge of how little money people make and how hard they work is powerful stuff.

There are a lot of people in Indonesia working very hard just to get by. Maybe -- just maybe -- if everyone understood this, we would start being nicer to each other. Maybe that's the Globe's mission.

Check out the smile on pak Yusup's face? He's doing what he loves. It's almost enough to make me want to take up tennis!
