learning to love the ride
If you have been following my blog for a while, you might have noticed that I made a bunch of subtle changes recently. I wanted to explain them, because they are all important to me and reflect who I am right now:- Colour --- Green because I love green. It's soothing. And grey because it's not as hard on the eyes as white.
- About me --- This is now way down the bottom of the page. Novelists tuck their photos and bios inside the back cover. I like that. It reminds me of something that Barbra Streisand once said. When someone asked her why she doesn't put the film credits at the beginning of her films, she said something like, "I want people to judge the film for what it is, not by who made it or stars in it". Nice. So, down to the bottom of the page goes my bio.
- Bio --- Any social media "expert" will tell you that your bio is all important. I agree. But can it accurately capture who you are? No. You have to meet someone to discover who they are as a person. So I decided that I wanted my bio to describe the blog, as opposed to me. Hopefully it says This blog gets crotchety sometimes. But he means well, so don't hesitate to tell him off.
- Title --- Yes... interesting isn't it? According to Dictionary.com, spruik is Australian slang. It means to give an extensive or elaborate speech. That's entirely coincidental. I chose spruiked because I thought it meant dressed up. That's the risk with slang. You never know what a word actually means until the Oxford Dictionary officially recognises it. And then it ceases to be slang! The jakarta style bit is self explanatory. I changed this from djak style because only Indonesians understand the "d". What I mean the title to say is something like Dressed up Jakarta style, or This is me in my Jakarta outfit.
- Byline --- This is taken from The United States of Tara, a Showtime creation starring Toni Collette. It's about a family struggling with dissociative identity disorder. For me, it sums up life beautifully. Treat your life as a journey --- a ride --- and everything will work out. Accept what life gives you with gratitude. Nice, eh? Here's the video. It's beautifully done.
