the president misreads public sentiment, comes across as a pansy

I’ve been hurt; awfully hurt

Don't get me wrong, I am a big SBY fan. He is a brilliant man, but he is clearly surrounded by idiots.

Today will go down in history as the day that changed everything

  • The Police have arrested KPK commissioners Bibit and Chandra.
  • The nation is outraged.
  • The media --- both English speaking and Indonesian --- are frothing with "What The F--- Is Going On?!!!" articles.
  • Bibit and Chandra have become Facebook celebrities in mere minutes.

SBY is beginning to look less like the hero we re-elected and more Nixon-esque every minute. And what do we have from the President? He has been "hurt". WTF?!! Wake up!!!

SBY is a brilliant man?

The hero that "we" re-elected?

Some big calls on that front :D

You don't think SBY is brilliant?

As for "we", I feel like I effectively voted for him by supporting him so openly.

Nope. I do not think the man is brilliant. To be honest I have never thought the man to be brilliant. The past election was about the devil you know and the one you don't.

I have never been convinced that SBY came to the KPK issue with clean hands. So, the fact that he is awfully hurt means nothing.

I am going to guess we differ quite differently / markedly in our views on some things Indonesian. This is not a bad thing. I am also not into pissing contests of, "I have lived longer in Indonesia" or "I know X" or whatever else one can come up with.

To each their own.

On the "we", I was just taking the piss. I always enjoy reading the perspectives of non-Indonesians who have a much deeper understanding of Indonesia than they are given credit for, and who almost always find themselves identifying with Indonesians in the "we" manner.

It is refreshing, I think.

Oohh... nicely put. Mr Smooth Operator, you should be in politics.

As for SBY's brilliance, I mean generally as a politician. In terms of this KPK mess, he is clearly an idiot.

You should definitely tell me what you disagree with me on, because I am not so arrogant to believe that I am right. We all have different insights into this country and the only way we can completely understand is if we share/argue/discuss.

Using "we" was a conscious decision. I got sick of being excluded or discounted because I don't have a KITAP. I thought "we" was a subtle way of embedding myself :)

Embedded you are :D

When you write something that I disagree with, then I will be sure to leave a comment (of a civil kind)...

Civil? Nah, be criminal! :D

Anyway, weren't you going to do a guest post?

Another question, what kind of research/reading did you do on parenting?

Guest post? I thought I sent you a run down (my take on the Prita case)...I will dig it up and resend it.

Are you about to get into the parenting game?

To be honest, not a lot. I was a little wary of over-analyzing it and blowing any chance that young Will had at a happy childhood. We are not flying blind either as there are always plenty of people close by ready to offer up an opinion (wanted or not).

I figured if I read too much then the young fella would be walking around the house in a helmet and crash gear.

Love the imagery of crash helmeted kids.

Yep, we're about to launch into the parenting game. I figure that "An Idiots Guide" might be a good idea, just to understand the basics of children. You know, shit, cry, sleep, etc.

Mate...you will learn on the job, and more quickly than you ever imagined that you would.

Good luck! (all parents need a little bit of it :D)
